Who Knew Anyone Read New Moon Over Roxbury?  And Other Mysteries of the Writing Life.
  • Recent & Upcoming Activities in New Orleans

    Continuous

In December, The Gulf Coast Fund for Community Revitalization and Ecological Renewal sponsored a whirlwind three day three city technical assistance event for its grantees.  I had the privilege of participating as a trainer through the good graces of Judy Hatcher at The Environmental Support Center.  A couple dozen groups from southern Louisiana, New Orleans, Gulf coast Mississippi and Alabama sharpened their fundraising skills, networked together and shared excellent meals.

Coming up: a visit to New Orleans for a Submerged reading, maybe some painting and gardening with the 7th Ward Community Center and a meet up with the good people  of Mossville Environmental Action Now.

  • Earth Day at Boston University and Other Speaking Engagements

    April 22, 2009:
I will be a respondent to William Means, at an upcoming Lowell Lecture sponsored by the Boston University School of Theology.  Mr. Means is ... and this event celebrates Earth Day.  I was asked to be a respondent because, Marla Marcum, a doctoral candidate at BUSTh, teaches a piece I wrote years ago, New Moon Over RoxburyNew Moon has had a longer life span than I ever expected.

    Other upcoming speaking engagements:

    April 1, 2009:
I will be  a panel member for  "Hope, Crisis, and Local Communities" sponsored by  the Public Humanities Initiative, The Office for Diversityand Equal Opportunity, and the Asian American Cultural Center at Yale.  Dinner will be provided at the event.  It will be held at the Hall of Graduate Studies (HGS, room 401), 320 York Street, New Haven, CT, from 5:30-7:00pm if your interested in attending.

    April 7, 2009:
The Center for New Words, monthly Feminism and Dessert,  with board members of Cooperative Economics for Women

All three events will benefit Cooperative Economics for Women.

Submerged to Benefit Katrina Survivors

I always wanted to write about hair angst so when Lauren Gonzalez invited me to contribute to Submerged I jumped at the chance.

A percentage of proceeds will benefit ongoing efforts to support Hurricane Katrina survivors.

Watch this site for upcoming readings in New Orleans and, maybe, Brooklyn and Boston.  You can get your copy at Stepsister Press.
